Workshop Dyeing Experience

You can either bring your own items to dye or select products from our indigo dyeing experience menu and try dyeing yourself. Our staff will carefully explain the dyeing process, so even first-timers can participate with confidence.

In addition to the dyeing experience, we offer a guided tour of our facility to introduce the steps involved in creating the beautiful indigo color.

How to Book Your Experience

Please fill out the required fields in the “Workshop Registration Form” on the same page to apply.

For group participation, only one representative needs to submit the application.

We will contact you within 3 business days (excluding weekends) to finalize your reservation.

Join us at Watanabe’s studio for your dyeing experience:

Duration: ~1.5 hours (Japanese) / ~2 hours (international guests).

Take-home item: Process and finish your dyed piece at home.

Pay on the day of your visit. We accept cash or credit cards.

Important Information (Please Read)

Please be aware that the suitability of materials for dyeing varies, and depending on the condition of the product we receive, it may be difficult to predict how well the dye will take. Be sure to read the following notes carefully before placing your order.

About Materials

●Materials suitable for dyeing include:
○Cotton, linen, and other plant fibers
○Silk, wool, and other animal fibers
○Lyocell, Tencel (refined fibers)
○Rayon, Cupro, and other regenerated fibers
○Acetate and other semi-synthetic fibers
●Synthetic fibers such as nylon and polyester do not take dye well and are generally unsuitable for dyeing.
●Silk may experience significant fading after dyeing, depending on the item.
●If during the preliminary scouring process large amounts of oil or color bleeding are detected, we may suspend dyeing. In such cases, return shipping costs will be borne by the customer. Please understand this in advance.
●Even materials generally suitable for dyeing may not dye well depending on fiber structure, weave, or fabric processing. Please be aware of this before ordering.

Important Points During Dyeing

●Slight shrinkage of the product may occur.
●Depending on the material, the final color may not reach your desired intensity or there may be slight differences from the requested shade.
●If the material is deteriorated, tearing or loss/damage to buttons and other parts may occur during dyeing or washing.
●Sweat, grease stains, or deodorant residues may cause discoloration.
●Thick materials may be difficult to dye evenly.
For sneakers, shrinkage, deformation, sole peeling, or stains may occur.

Total Fee = Guidance & Tour Fee + Dyeing Fee

●Guidance & Tour Fee
○ Japanese: 3,300 yen per person (30-minute session).
○ English: 5,500 yen per person (1-hour session).

●Dyeing Fee (Bring Your Own Item)
The following dyeing experience fee applies to each individual product.
○ ~100g: 3,300 yen
○ ~200g: 6,600 yen
○ ~300g: 9,900 yen
○ ~400g: 13,200 yen
○ ~500g: 16,500 yen

○Example: 180g T-shirt
Japanese: 3,300 yen (guidance) + 6,600 yen (dyeing) = 9,900 yen total.
English: 5,500 yen (guidance) + 6,600 yen (dyeing) = 12,100 yen total.

●Dyeing Fee (Choose from Our Catalogue)
The following dyeing experience fee applies to each individual product.
○ Hand towel: 3,300 yen
○ Coaster set (4 pieces): 3,300 yen
○ Furoshiki wrap: 4,400 yen
○ Corduroy hat: 5,500 yen

○Example: Hand towel
Japanese: 3,300 yen (guidance) + 3,300 yen (dyeing) = 6,600 yen total.
English: 5,500 yen (guidance) + 3,300 yen (dyeing) = 8,800 yen total.

※ Pricing is fixed regardless of dye intensity.

藍染め体験後の後処理方法

1.　製品を40°C程度の湯にしっかり浸し30分置く。
2.　水を変えながら3回水洗いする。
3.　製品をお酢を入れた水にしっかり浸し20分置く。
　　（ためた水の量に対して5％のお酢）
4.　水を変えながら3回水洗いする。
5.　水気をしっかりとり、自然乾燥させる。

6.　製品を40°C程度の湯にしっかり浸し30分置く。
7.　水を変えながら3回水洗いする。
8.　水気をしっかりとり、自然乾燥させる。

9.　6.7.8の工程をもう一度行う。

・灰汁抜きとはすくもに含まれるインディゴ以外の不純物を取り除くことです。藍染め本来の青色が冴え、紫外線による褪色変化を軽減する効果もあります。

・お酢の入ったお水を通すことにより、藍染液でアルカリによった製品のpHを中和させることで本来の柔らかな風合いに戻ります。また、色止めの効果もあります。

・水洗いに使用したボウルやシンクの表面に青い顔料がつくことがありますが、メラミンスポンジ等でこすることで落とすことができます。

藍染め体験後のお手入れ方法

・衣料品については最初の3回の洗濯は白物と分け、中性洗剤を適量いれた 40°C程度の湯で優しく洗うことをおすすめします。使用する洗剤は蛍光増白剤や漂白剤の入っていないものをご使用ください。

・のれん等の装飾品についても、1ヶ月に1度はアク抜きのため40°C程度の湯で手洗いをおすすめします。

・日光などの紫外線に反応し、変色することもあります。紫外線を避けて保管してください。

・よく使用し、よく洗うことが一番色が長持ちする秘訣です。
